The City of Foster City invites you to apply for the position of Senior Engineering Technician, an engineering support position which provides varied professional and field experience in the following categories: receiving and recording applications for encroachment and transportation permits; performing drafting work; performing construction project inspections and field surveys; and providing compilation and distribution of data and maps.
Processes, issues, and maintains Encroachment permit applications, fees, and deposits, for banner, temporary placement, utilities construction, and improvement construction permits. Intakes, reviews, and releases performance Bonds. Reviews contractor submittals of plans and specifications on various permitted, development, and CIP projects; Prepares transportation permits for issuance. Performs construction inspections and prepares field notes and reports on various projects, including water, wastewater and storm drain systems, street repair and excavation, lagoon repair and maintenance, and traffic plans. Performs light drafting work in the preparation of plans and/or details for street, building, utility systems, surface and underground structure improvements; assists in preparation and review of maps, plans, layouts, agreements, and related documents; checks for code conformance; gathers, compiles and tabulates statistical data; prepares staff reports; coordinates with other City departments.
Coordinates with Finance to intake, track, and return deposits, bond checks, and performance bonds; coordinates with permit applicants for deposit replenishment and financial management; and prepares refund memos and release letters.
Performs inspections required by Municipal Regional Permit for stormwater compliance. Facilitates and conducts regular meetings and general correspondence with public utilities. Assists engineers with review of plans for proposed development projects and special events.
Supports traffic engineering activities with field and office investigations; surveys and reports on conditions; performs field verification of USAs; collects data; maintains plan files; revises and updates maps and other engineering data; reviews and checks technical aspects of subdivision maps; responds to public and staff requests; provides data management and analysis on a variety of Citywide and department-specific software applications; prepares reports and analyses for project managers.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination of education and training that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent; college courses in engineering or drafting desirable. Experience: Four years of full-time, paid experience in municipal engineering, including drafting and surveying. Up to two years of college education in engineering or drafting may be substituted for the required full-time experience on a year for year basis.
LICENSES: Possession of a valid Class C California Drivers License and a good driving record.
