Position Description: Under general direction, plans, supervises and coordinates traffic engineering, transportation planning and maintenance of traffic control devices and equipment; monitors, modifies and develops traffic safety operational programs; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and performs related work as required.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Traffic Engineer. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of five years of experience in traffic engineering including supervisory experience, as well as a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Civil Engineering, including or supplemented by additional study and/or training in traffic engineering.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver’s license and a Civil Engineering License issued by the State of California. Possession of a Traffic Engineering License is desirable but not required.
