The longstanding rivalry between California and Texas goes well beyond sports and politics. A new list of The Best Taco Cities in America puts the competition front and center, with six out of the top 10 winners in either state.
The website Real Estate Witch compared the 50 most populous U.S. metro areas across seven metrics. These include the number of taco restaurants per capita, the average Yelp ratings for taco restaurants, and taco prices. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale.
These are the top 10 Best Taco Cities in America, according to the rankings:
1. Austin, TX
2. San Jose, CA
3. Las Vegas, NV
4. San Antonio, TX
5. San Diego, CA
6. Los Angeles, CA
7. Phoenix, AZ
8. Riverside, CA
9. Denver, CO
10. Houston, TX
Austin? Really?
Look, don’t blame us. Since Real Estate Witch stuck with the most populous cities, a lot of smaller towns with delicious, authentic taco scenes went ignored. If this were our list, we might also include street vending laws as a metric. Nothing beats street food made with love – and sometimes, a little civil disobedience.
List and data were compiled by Real Estate Witch and do not reflect statistics on all cities.
