Seventy-one law enforcement agencies have been accused of improperly sharing license plate reader data with anti-abortion states, potentially threatening women’s access to health services in California. But at least one of those agencies is now fighting back, accusing civil rights groups of promoting “lawlessness.”
Newsom wants to give $285 million in grant money to law enforcement and district attorneys over the next three years, plus $25 million to small businesses victimized by theft. The money will be part of the proposed budget in January. The governor’s plan would also create a permanent Smash and Grab Enforcement Unit.
The Associated Press reports that “at least 31 officers in 12 states are being scrutinized by their supervisors for their behavior in the District of Columbia or face criminal charges for participating in the riot.”
