Job Description
The Town of Moraga is a picturesque and family-oriented community with a culture of volunteerism, welcoming, belonging, and inclusion. Moraga is in Contra Costa County, tucked into the San Francisco East Bay hills between the cities of Orinda and Lafayette. It is a bedroom community that offers a quiet semi-rural lifestyle with a small-town feel and easy access to big city amenities. It boasts close-knit neighborhoods and lovely tree-lined streets. Moraga is also proud to be the home of Saint Mary’s College, a prestigious Catholic university with almost 4,000 students and very much a part of the fabric of Moraga.
The Town Manager serves at the pleasure of the Town Council and is responsible for implementing the vision, policies, and goals of the Town Council. This role requires a close and professional working relationship with the Council, Town staff, and the community at large. As chief administrative officer, the Town Manager is directly responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of all Town departments and entities. The Town Manager will provide clear analyses and recommendations that are supported by research and facts and that facilitate informed decision and policy making by the Council. The Town Manager will assist the Council in strategic planning and short- and long-range goal setting.
The Town Council is seeking an effective and decisive leader who is a proven team builder, diplomatic communicator, and strategic thinker. Candidates who are fiscally prudent with a strong financial background and who understand all aspects of a Town’s finances, including the intricacies of budgets and capital improvement plans are particularly desirable. The next Town leader will be cooperative, an excellent listener, and someone who approaches issues with their sleeves rolled up. A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in public or business administration or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. The salary for the Town Manager is competitive and dependent upon experience and qualifications. The Town of Moraga also offers an attractive benefits package.
